5 things 2017 has already taught meLike5

Is it too early to say that 2017 has already taught me lessons right from the start?

I’ve already taken my first trips of the year for 2017 and it is to my first love, the city of London, right after Amsterdam for the New Year.

London is a place where everything first made sense once upon a time and it was always a city I found my answers in.

It gave me inspiration to start Travel Junkie Diary 3 years ago. I know my good friends who are reading this are smiling right now knowing exactly what I am talking about especially on how we were coming up with the name Travel Junkie Diary.

So It made sense that at the beginning of the year, going there for direction was a perfect place to start.

Here is a little personal article to start my year and if you enjoy reading it, feel free to click share below!

5 Things 2017 Has Already Taught Me During My Travels

Listen to the truth when it’s not spoken –  We are all governed by 2 instincts: desire and the need to avoid loss or pain. They are both intertwined and both equally satisfying and painful at the same time. The need to want to succeed or have something to hold on to so badly that you are afraid of letting go. It is almost as if the rest of the world disappears.  The problem starts when you build so much of it in your head, you are left with disappointments when you come face to face with it. You mourn the loss of the idea that you desired or once believed in. It tips into the direction of letting go. The truth speaks when the attention is given only when it’s convenient. In the end, we need to learn to hold on to only the real things or people that deserves your full attention and interaction not only when they are available, but also when they are not. The little silence in between…That is the truth when it is not spoken. Learn to listen to it very carefully because it may just give you all the answers. If you have to force it, leave it alone, not everyone you lose is a loss.

Hold on to the one that needs you – Best friends and soul mates are two different things but both hold such an important role in our lives. I never believed in having just one soul mate, it’s a suffering word that has been used so many times. I have had few wonderful people in my life that come and go and some, stayed and inspired me to move further than my ability of greatness. I also had couple of best friends but just like soulmates some come and some go. I also am guilty of forging (or making believe) a best friend or a soul mate.

A couple of days into 2017 and I learned the difference between a person who needs you and a person who wants you (and no, not in a romantic way). One that gives attention when it’s convenient to do so by mood and availability and one that is there for you because this person wants to be and wants to be sure you are safe and happy, regardless of whether its convenient or not.

Sometimes, you build a person up in your head for the longest time and it’s not real… and that’s ok as long as you realize it.

We are all guilty of that.

Let go of those who just wants you, those who keep the conversations to a minimum, only because you serve a purpose. Hold on to the people who need you, those kind of friendships that will do anything to keep you and is interested in every thing about you, regardless how mysterious you are. Mental connection is deeper than physical attraction and just like you cannot force chemistry to happen, you cannot prevent it when it does.

Give yourself permission to be human – If it’s not time for you to get up, then its not time.

You do not have to control everything and you are not a robot. Motivation comes from love and being loved in return, if today, you do not feel this, then give yourself permission to be human. Pinterest quotes and words are sometimes all they are…just words. There are countless times I wanted to give up and walk away. There were countless moments I almost did. The start of 2017 had me going through a lot of changes so for now all we can do is accept and wait.

Celebrate friendships  The older you get, the harder it is to find love in friendships. Simply because, we acquired more wisdom and experience to be picky and to chose wisely. The more intelligent we become, the harder it is for us to accept any kind of magic! We slowly start to learn that love needs to be felt consciously. The more independent we are, the less likely we keep useless friendships or lovers in our lives because simply put, we know what we want.

So today, I celebrate the friends I have brought in with me to 2017, who fought hard to stay in my life despite me not always being physically near them due to the nature of my business, but I promise this year will be different, and, letting go of those people who mistook my kindness to weakness, those who took my friendship to their advantage and for granted, no matter how difficult it is for me to say goodbye.

Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care.

Travel for a purpose – 2017, you will see more adventure and much more improvements in the ways TJD will bring you travel! Working with NGO programs has always been in my repertoire but this time, I will help and guide you in ways in which you can help others and travel to serve and help others. 2017 will bring more nature, conservation and awareness and I for one cannot wait for you to join me!

  • A huge shift in my energy today as I start working on our next @travelwithtjd - Scandic countries holds an exhilarating amount of joy and peace in my heart, which I’ve learned not to search anymore for reasons to explain it, because some things cannot always be expressed in words.
We have recently launched Sweden’s Arctic experience on @travelwithtjd other than Finland, Iceland and Norway. The link is in bio if you like to join our polar journeys and have an adventure of a lifetime. Only 2 spaces left for Sweden. Hope to see you on our TJD trips!

  • Sunrise view from my room facing the Athenian Riviera from @fsathens from Arion side of the building which is more laidback.
I have to admit though, it’s good to be back home and back to a routine. I tend to pick up emotions from the people and environment around me, and from time to time, it’s good to be grounded. Thank you Four Seasons for a wonderful experience and congratulations on the opening! ❤️
  • It was 18 degrees at the most one morning, and the sun was shining. Jumped on a @fsathens boat and sailed to visit the Poseidon Temple and an afternoon lunch at hidden gem by the sea with the sweetest people. I love being on boats and grew very fond on them since I was very little. ❤️
  • I was lucky enough to have had 3 sunny days in Athens before the weather turned into beautiful rain. It was a great weekend celebrating @fsathens opening. This is one of the pools at sunset from Nafsika side with private cabanas on the sides. That’s my weekend, how was yours? ☀️
  • I landed in Athens couple of days ago to celebrate the opening of @fsathens - Four Seasons Hotel Astir Palace Hotel Athens is a luxury escape resting on a peninsula along the Athens Riviera, just 30-minutes from the historic city centre.
I ALWAYS love coming back to Greece 🇬🇷
  • I’m caption-less this morning. Might be because my mind is either overloaded or too relaxed, does this happen to you? 😊 - but here is @joalimaldives from where I drone. Happy Thursday everyone!
  • Back in Dubai for 24 hours and summer has already begun here and there is no way I can manage to have Charlie look at the camera!! My summer plans are getting together and with a little inspiration from @theitalianwayuae we are adding Italy’s coast on our itinerary as well! #TheItalianWay
What are your summer plans?
  • Located on Muravandhoo island on the Raa Atoll in the northern Maldives, @joalimaldives celebrates the ‘Joie De Vivre’ ... the joy of living, the joy of everything ❤️
  • You’ve got to find that soul friend... You’ve got to find that person. I’ve always truly believed that.
Those which answers to these questions—does our friendship feel easy? Am I better for knowing this person? Do they help me become closer to the person I ultimately want to be? Can we be quiet together for a long time? That's the person I want to be be forever friends with. That's my soul person. Do you have yours? 💫
  • I’ve traded my snow gear to flip flops! I’m always happy to be back at @joalimaldives and since the pre-opening, it has flourished so much and the island has come alive! I’m always impressed with the incredible work they do here in attempts to save the marine life, the co-operation they do for the local islands and the incredible staff that has become good friends of mine now! ❤️
How gorgeous is this overwater villa?
  • It’s been a challenging week and the year is passing way too quick!! I’ve already started planning my summer vacation which I’m so ready for and setting new adventures for winter journeys in the arctic on @travelwithtjd - But, Portugal is always a returning choice for me this summer, especially Madeira Island.
What are your summer plans?
  • I was looking back at some of the memories I’ve made in the past. Everyone say don’t look back... but I always do and smile.
I look back when we say goodbye at the airport, at old beautiful memories and it’s always beautiful to see what an incredible life I’ve built. Here is a memory of Kenya 3 years ago where I spent 2 nights at Giraffe Manor and woke up at the break of dawn, looking outside my window, and saw these beautiful creatures staring right back at me. 😊 Do you ever look back?
