I started a month’s challenge of Pilates. In the past, I did the 30 day challenge with Bikram Yoga. That went well, I would not do it again though. An intense overwhelming amount of feelings come out of you in Bikram. Plus, I got a slight knee injury doing it. No regrets though, I still practice Bikram. Just not as religiously as I do with Pilates. The reason I understand and have fallen in love with Pilates or Yoga in the past 7 years is because it disciplines you, if you have the right instructor, it takes you to another level. Body and mind. My mind was the one I also desperately needed focus on. Some place where I am for 60 or 90 minutes by myself. Focusing on just me.
Pilates taught me to breathe. One of the basic principles. It was everything I needed to learn. The next 4 came naturally after quite some time. The breathing was the one I needed to focus on. To find my pelvic floor muscle. No matter how many different ways they tried to teach us. To master the breathing needed to come with practice. Alas, it took me a month to be able to breathe how human beings were needed to breathe and not how they were told to. Through the ribcage. Not the stomach. Inhale through the nose…exhale through the mouth and being aware of it.
A year has passed after my daughter was born and I still was in and out of Pilates classes. Not as serious or determined as I was for 7 years, I tried, but I kept giving excuses to myself, until two days ago, I had enough.
I knew the only way I would go back to my routine, was to sign up with Delinda, at Real Pilates Studios, a 30 day package that I would be in need of private classes and group classes and pay on the spot.
Discipline. Here we go.
This was it. Delinda had booked me in on Tuesday December 10th for a body analysis session and an endurance test. She also sent me the sweetest email, having a nutrition background herself, a recipe for my morning green juice. I have to admit, THAT, above all, got me super excited! Cleansing juices in the mornings are the perfect way to start your day!! And of course, I did what every person would do when they start a new workout or gym. I went to the nearest sports shop and got myself a whole new closet of outfits for my workout, of course!
If you are looking for why I chose Pilates as my choice of ‘drug’ for 7 years and going strong, here are the benefits.
Would love to hear your feedback, are you a Pilates believer? You can always join me in any of the classes!
