Travel Blogging Versus Social Media – What’s The Key?Like4

I struggled to choose a caption for this article because they say that you are what you share on social media, and so, I wanted to make it count.

Being a ‘blogger’ or a ‘traveler’ has changed significantly over the past few years. There was a time where information you had on a destination was far more important than your whereabouts. I remember disappearing for days without my phone in my hand, I’m lucky I can still do that… most of the time. Today, you can’t go on Instagram without stumbling upon hundreds of carefully selected, beautifully crafted images but has the word ‘influence’ or ‘inspiration’ become a suffering word?

When I first started sharing my journey with others in 2013, it was on tips, inspiration and destinations no matter where I was, where I’ve been, and where I was going. I found passion in sharing what I know, helping others in achieving their dreams, inspiring them to greater things and feeding them with the right and useful information.

I’ve visited 87 countries so far throughout my life and not all of them are on my social media feed.

The truth is, things are not the same as they used to be. Travel and the way we chose our destination has changed and grown. The internet has given us a chance to see the world through people’s eyes and to dream of places many of us never even knew existed.

But social media has also changed travel and the nature of blogging. Information is lost. Inspiration has been numbed to so many. Sharing my  journey online has today somewhat been a constant pressure and the staging of every single photo has become the business of every instagrammer. There were days where we used to fall in love with a place because of the way it made us feel and the person we would become, without overthinking it, and without over-manipulating a photo.

So, I tell myself to always remember how little is needed to live a happy life. Writing or blogging is not necessarily being famous on Instagram or on social media. It’s a skill to keep your readers hanging on. It’s a passion for expressing what matters the most. It’s a series of stories that are wrapped together to make the story of your life, regardless of  how the weather was.

I have felt the pressure of keeping up (and at times almost giving up) and carefully selecting what I chose to share was becoming routine. I simply couldn’t keep up, because I have always lived my life outside and not as an insider looking out… and I did not want to change that ever. I’ve even promised myself that I would be a leader, not a follower, and stay far away from online traveling trends that would warp my ability to offer my readers the very best & honest tips and insider reports.

Today, my advice to you is that we need to ignore what everyone is doing and achieving on instagram. Your life is about breaking your own limits and outgrowing yourself to live your best life. We (you) are not in competition with anyone else. I’ve learned long ago to outdo my past and not other people.

September is always like a new year for me and has more signification to me than January. I feel it’s the start of something new and fresh start. Maybe because summer break is always so rewarding by being away from some certain things. I am proud of my accomplishments, with TJD Consultancy and Travel For A Purpose and what Travel Junkie Diary stands for today. I hope I’ll always have the courage to live a life that’s true to who I am and not the life that others expect of me… So what is the key?

The key is… confidence. You don’t need to convince others because beautiful things don’t crave for attention. Confidence goes straight to the heart and it’s moving on to greater things. I had the chance to make every possible mistake and figure out a way to always recover from it. Once you realize that there is life after a mistake, you gain your confidence and that, never goes away.

And that, is my wish for you.

Genuine is the word to describe this post! Very well expressed, that’s exactly how I feel about travel and how it has changed through social media today yet I try ti hang on to what it means to me and how it always made me feel, doing my best to keep it from being tarnished by new definitions and trends. Thank you Michelle for the inspiration <3

  • Lebanon in summer is all about exploring. Found this new hip beach bar on the coast of Byblos. The graffiti on the wall, the hanging hammocks in the water and the vibe, makes this place one of the cutest beach clubs I’ve seen so far. I love my beautiful home 🇱🇧
  • The last time I switched my laptop on was 5 days ago. The last time that happened was exactly a year ago. My phone is most of the time misplaced far away from me, my camera is still in my bag, my mind is switched off and I’m surrounded with love 💕and music 🎶. So happy to be back in Lebanon on my official summer break.
  • Home sweetest home ❤️
  • I love the the 3 AM version of people... Honest, vulnerable and real.
  • I have some sort of mental block this morning... which is a good thing so... Happy Thursday ☀️
  • This is a (long) thank you post... To my teachers.
Thank you for showing me my true strength... Not only physical strength, but more importantly mental strength.
Thank you for allowing me to let go... Whenever I feel I need a break from the world, your shala is the first place I run to... and when I’m away, it’s the first place I think of when I practice on my own, miles away. The sound of my breathing alone, takes me back to the exact spot where I place my mat... and I’m fully transported back to the stillness and awareness.
Thank you for giving me a safe place to seek connection & allowing me to breathe... when I’m at my most vulnerable, you’ve made it ok for my tears to roll down my face in Savasana or during a posture, open up and just be me without any judgement.
Thank you for offering so much of yourself to allow me to grow through my practice... Thank you for teaching me the true meaning of yoga, how to practice not only on the mat, but off the mat too... Yoga is a natural state of mind and not whether or not you can touch your toes.
The light in me honors the light in you. Happy New moon

  • I’m still going through the photos I’ve taken during my trip to Menorca. Still can’t believe how beautiful the island is!
  • Last couple of days at work before heading back home 🇱🇧. What are your summer plans? Anything exciting?
  • Your memory feels like home to me.
So whenever my mind wanders, it always finds its way back to you 💫
  • Someone at work asked me the other day what my goals were... I told them to be happy. To be really really really F**** happy. What’s yours?
  • How much time do you spend planning for a trip? I still can’t get over the beautiful sunsets I’ve been lucky to experience on the island. I’ve also written two blog posts on guides to Menorca and what to watch out for prior booking.
I do usually spend a lot of time on research for my trips, months in advance and, for this specific trip, it was a little challenging finding a place to stay that matched what I was exactly looking for.
The search engine that worked well for me was @wegoarabia - as for flights, I didn’t have too many options from Barcelona but it worked out well. I mixed it between hotel stay and private villa stay for my 10 nights. Booked a car and took it really easy at the end!
