Travel Insurance – Why Do We Need it?Like0

There are so many different reasons why a lot of travelers do not purchase travel insurance. When asked for a reason why you don’t purchase travel insurance, I received hundreds of almost the same replies: Either too expensive or not sure of what it can cover you.

Firstly, travel insurance comes in many forms, true, but a lot could be basic as well. In the past, when looking for travel insurance, I partnered with RSA Insurance and they educated me on the different ways I could purchase travel insurance and it made me think a lot about the reasons why most of us don’t purchase travel insurance. A lot of the times, we might be too lazy or forget to. But, we have all lost that phone on a trip, or our passport and even our money. What about a delayed flight or even a sick sibling. These are all unforeseen accidents.

Here are few points to know thanks to RSA Travel Insurance

TRAVEL INCONVENIENCE COVER

Passport, Travel Documents, Personal Money

Passport cover refers to the replacement fee for the lost, stolen or damaged passport. It also refers to the associated costs of losing your passport e.g. you need to stay back in the holiday destination, you cannot take your flight home.

Personal money is not a mandatory Schengen cover, but typically you may have lost more than one document at one time e.g. if a day bag was lost or stolen, and you have some cash in the folder.

Personal Belongings and Baggage

Personal baggage, majority of claims are for loss of jewellery, mobile phones and cameras, these are personal possessions.

Claims stories are unique when losing, stealing or damaging eg. travelling to Ubud where a monkey damaged a camera, this is covered under accidental damage e.g. an item stolen from the car boot whilst road tripping.

Missed Departures and Connections

Flight delays are covered for an unforeseen incident as to why you cannot take the flight. Missed connections are covered e.g. your first flight was delayed and therefore you missed the second one, you may need to stay in the layover destination and require a hotel. The entire expenses related to the missed connections will be covered.

Delayed Baggage

If your baggage is delayed e.g takes hours/days to arrive, RSA will cover expenses e.g. food, clothes.

ISOS

ISOS is travel support hotline advising you on what to do next, what you need, where you need to go etc. if you have an emergency, we provide lost document advice, foreign language translator.

It also covers medical advice during an emergency.

TRAVEL MEDICAL COVER

ISOS medical advice is a fast response time, with a network of hospitals and clinics, advice, appointments, who call back to check, deliver medicine etc. It is a complimentary cover to existing medical insurance.

Emergency telephone charges are covered e.g. you need to make calls home during an emergency medical situation.

Pets Care e.g extending a visit due to a medical emergency, your kennel is covered under executive policy.

OPTIONAL EXTRA

Cruise covers missed port departure ie. An external unforeseen reason as to why you couldn’t make the cruise.

If the cruise undergoes an itinerary change e.g. due to weather, each missed port is claimable.

Cruise interruption during a medical emergency, the cost to re-join the trip is covered.

Also covers the cost of a close relative travelling to your destination to bring a dependent child back if you’re ill or injured.

  • A huge shift in my energy today as I start working on our next @travelwithtjd - Scandic countries holds an exhilarating amount of joy and peace in my heart, which I’ve learned not to search anymore for reasons to explain it, because some things cannot always be expressed in words.
We have recently launched Sweden’s Arctic experience on @travelwithtjd other than Finland, Iceland and Norway. The link is in bio if you like to join our polar journeys and have an adventure of a lifetime. Only 2 spaces left for Sweden. Hope to see you on our TJD trips!

  • Sunrise view from my room facing the Athenian Riviera from @fsathens from Arion side of the building which is more laidback.
I have to admit though, it’s good to be back home and back to a routine. I tend to pick up emotions from the people and environment around me, and from time to time, it’s good to be grounded. Thank you Four Seasons for a wonderful experience and congratulations on the opening! ❤️
  • It was 18 degrees at the most one morning, and the sun was shining. Jumped on a @fsathens boat and sailed to visit the Poseidon Temple and an afternoon lunch at hidden gem by the sea with the sweetest people. I love being on boats and grew very fond on them since I was very little. ❤️
  • I was lucky enough to have had 3 sunny days in Athens before the weather turned into beautiful rain. It was a great weekend celebrating @fsathens opening. This is one of the pools at sunset from Nafsika side with private cabanas on the sides. That’s my weekend, how was yours? ☀️
  • I landed in Athens couple of days ago to celebrate the opening of @fsathens - Four Seasons Hotel Astir Palace Hotel Athens is a luxury escape resting on a peninsula along the Athens Riviera, just 30-minutes from the historic city centre.
I ALWAYS love coming back to Greece 🇬🇷
  • I’m caption-less this morning. Might be because my mind is either overloaded or too relaxed, does this happen to you? 😊 - but here is @joalimaldives from where I drone. Happy Thursday everyone!
  • Back in Dubai for 24 hours and summer has already begun here and there is no way I can manage to have Charlie look at the camera!! My summer plans are getting together and with a little inspiration from @theitalianwayuae we are adding Italy’s coast on our itinerary as well! #TheItalianWay
What are your summer plans?
  • Located on Muravandhoo island on the Raa Atoll in the northern Maldives, @joalimaldives celebrates the ‘Joie De Vivre’ ... the joy of living, the joy of everything ❤️
  • You’ve got to find that soul friend... You’ve got to find that person. I’ve always truly believed that.
Those which answers to these questions—does our friendship feel easy? Am I better for knowing this person? Do they help me become closer to the person I ultimately want to be? Can we be quiet together for a long time? That's the person I want to be be forever friends with. That's my soul person. Do you have yours? 💫
  • I’ve traded my snow gear to flip flops! I’m always happy to be back at @joalimaldives and since the pre-opening, it has flourished so much and the island has come alive! I’m always impressed with the incredible work they do here in attempts to save the marine life, the co-operation they do for the local islands and the incredible staff that has become good friends of mine now! ❤️
How gorgeous is this overwater villa?
  • It’s been a challenging week and the year is passing way too quick!! I’ve already started planning my summer vacation which I’m so ready for and setting new adventures for winter journeys in the arctic on @travelwithtjd - But, Portugal is always a returning choice for me this summer, especially Madeira Island.
What are your summer plans?
  • I was looking back at some of the memories I’ve made in the past. Everyone say don’t look back... but I always do and smile.
I look back when we say goodbye at the airport, at old beautiful memories and it’s always beautiful to see what an incredible life I’ve built. Here is a memory of Kenya 3 years ago where I spent 2 nights at Giraffe Manor and woke up at the break of dawn, looking outside my window, and saw these beautiful creatures staring right back at me. 😊 Do you ever look back?
